Victoria - Berkeley, CA | 2014 | Residential | Completed |
This transformation of a tired Berkeley Victorian into a home John McNeil and his family began with a nod to Gordon Matta-Clark: a diagonal swath of space slicing from front door to rear yard. Material within the slice is left raw or removed completely to reveal formerly hidden spaces. Ancillary zones are rendered in a matte gray monotone, highlighting the chroma and texture of the objects of everyday life.
Located adjacent to John’s creative studio, home and office are linked through subtle design cues and a deep spirit of creativity.
